SERVICIO MADRILEÑO DE SALUD (SERMAS) is the administrative and management structure that integrates the public health care system in the Madrid Region. SERMAS (beneficiary) is the legal representative of Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro-Majadahonda, Hospital Universitario La Paz, Hospital Universitario La Princesa, Hospital Universitario Gregorio Marañón and Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre.

Each of the aforementioned hospitals has its own Biomedical Research Foundation. The Foundations have been designed by SERMAS to handle all financial and administrative aspects of the corresponding Hospital involvement in research projects, including all issues relating to the employment and payment of additional personnel, purchase of equipment and consumables, etc, as is laid down in the Management Grant Agreement art.12 H2020 “in-kind contributions provided by third parties free of charge.

HOSPITAL UNIVERSITARIO PUERTA DE HIERRO-MAJADAHONDA, HUPHM, began its activities in 1964 and the main goals that underpin its creation are still present today:

  • Clinical activities
  • Research, Development and Innovation,
  • Clinical training

The HUPHM has a useful surface of 165,000 m2 which is structured in 3 areas:

  • Doctors’ Offices
  • Hospitalization Unit
  • Labs. Research Area

In this way, the Hospital also has:

  • 613 beds, 64 outpatient care stations and 26 dialysis stations
  • 22 operating rooms and 2 rooms for experimental surgery
  • 36 beds in the Emergency department

HUPHM supports the health needs of a population belonging to the Health Area 6, reckoned to provide for approximately 560.000 people.

For the assisting of all this population, the Hospital has more than 2,500 persons for the clinical staff working in 42 clinical specialties.
